Spotify CEO assures users that a “deluxe” version of Spotify with hi-fi audio is coming

Don’t expect it to be soon, however. The effort is said to still be “in early days”.

It may have been years, but Spotify hasn’t forgotten that it said it would be providing users with higher-quality music.

During Spotify’s recent earnings call, CEO Daniel Ek assured users that the company is working on a higher-quality streaming tier that, presumably, will offer lossless and high-resolution audio. However, he also said that this tier was still "in early days.”

He added:

The plan here is to offer much a much better version of Spotify. Think something like $5 above the current premium tier. So it’s probably around a $17 or $18 price point, but sort of a deluxe version of Spotify that has all of the benefits that the normal Spotify version has, but a lot more control, a lot higher quality across the board, and some other things that I’m not ready to talk about just yet.

It appears that Spotify is finding ways to make its “deluxe” version more compelling by adding more features apart from just higher-quality music. Word on the street is that this higher-end tier would have extra features like AI-powered playlists, advanced library management, and more.

This makes sense because Apple added lossless and high-resolution music to its service way back in 2021 at no additional cost. In fact, just months after Spotify announced that it would deliver a hi-fi streaming tier. Amazon did the same too in 2021 and added lossless and high-resolution music as a no-cost extra to its Amazon Music service.

It’s unclear why Spotify is taking so long to offer higher-quality music to its users. But by the looks of it, it appears Spotify was confounded by just how quickly and how cheaply its rivals could introduce hi-fi music to their services.
