Apple acquired a four-year-old startup which used machine learning to develop an “interest search engine” that delivered personalised information to the users.

Founded by former Google engineers, Laserlike’s core mission is to deliver “high quality information and diverse perspectives on any topic from the entire web to you”. The Laserlike app is no longer available following the acquisition and the Laserlike team has joined Apple’s AI team which is led by ex-Google AI chief John Giannandrea

Laserlike’s technologies are likely to be a big part of Apple’s upcoming premium news subscription service and boost the company’s AI efforts including Siri.
