Panasonic’s new Lumix cameras include large sensors and fast lenses

Panasonic has announced three new Lumix cameras to be released by the end of the year; the G85, the LX10 and the FZ2500.

The great Photokina show is happening now in Cologne, which explains the massive amount of camera news you’re seeing today (like Fujifilm’s medium format camera, the Xiaomi-backed S$450 mirrorless camera, and new Nikon action cameras).

Panasonic is also in the game, with three new Lumix cameras, one Micro Four Thirds (MFT) interchangeable lens camera, one fixed-lens premium compact, and one bridge camera with 20x optical zoom. All cameras will be available, in the US at least, by the end of the year. Local pricing and availability have yet to be announced.

Panasonic Lumix G85

The G85 is a lot similar to the GX85, and not just in name. It packs a 16MP MFT sensor, with 5-axis image stabilization (IS), and 4K video. Whereas the GX85 had a rangefinder-style body, the G85 has a DSLR-like body, which is splash and dust resistant, and comes with an OLED viewfinder. The US pricing is US$899 (body only) and US$999 (with 12-60mm kit lens).

Panasonic Lumix LX10

The Lumix LX10 is the new LX7, Panasonic’s premium point and shoot which squeezes a large 1” sensor into a small body and slaps on a fast, high-quality lens to boot.

The LX10 has an all-metal body with 5-axis IS, and 20MP resolution. The lens has a 24-72mm (35mm equivalent) focal length with an aperture range of f/1.4 to f/2.8. It does 4K video too. Viewfinder lovers will need to stand aside, there’s no EVF, but the high-resolution 1-million dot LCD touchscreen does tilt out 180 degrees. The US price is US$699.

Panasonic Lumix FZ2500

The Lumix FZ2500 is a bridge camera with 20x optical zoom, with a 24-480mm (35mm equivalent) focal length and an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/4.5. It packs a 20MP 1” sensor and does 4K video, with an OLED viewfinder. US price is US$1,199.
