The Apple Vision Pro has been hailed as the innovation of the year by Popular Science (PopSci in short).

Popular Science, which covers content in the realm of science, technology and nature, published its 37th annual Best of What's New awards that honours the 50 greatest innovations of 2024.

Topping the list is the S$5,299 Apple Vision Pro. Popular Science describes the device as "something different, important, and honestly pretty amazing", and "a true AR device".

It acknowledged the jaw-dropping price tag of the Vision Pro and how it isn't the first AR headset in the market, but the online publication is impressed by the potential that the Vision Pro shows

This is especially true considering how the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro cameras can shoot spatial content for viewing on the Vision Pro, and the availability of more than 1.5 million compatible iPad and iPhone apps that provide a familiar interface for Vision Pro users.

Looking ahead, Popular Science says the Vision Pro "could be a true game changer" if Apple can put "a consumer-friendly price on an experience like this".

Other gadgets that made it to the list include the Sony A9 III, the DJI Neo, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X series, the LG Signature OLED T, and the Oura Ring 4
