When Apple cancelled its electric car project earlier this year, it was rumoured that the company would venture into home robotics and that its first device would be a tabletop device with a display mounted on a robotic arm.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that project is moving forward and could launch as soon as 2026 for around US$1,000 (S$1,317).

According to Gurman, this device would serve as a “smart home command centre” and could be primarily used for videoconferencing and security monitoring.

It would have an iPad-like display mounted on a robotic arm. Using Siri and Apple Intelligence, it would respond to verbal commands and use the arm to tilt, rotate, and move the display to suit users.

Despite initial doubts about the device, Apple’s senior management is now said to be all in on it. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus are both said to be backing this project. The project is currently being overseen by Apple’s Vice President of Technology Kevin Lynch.
