After cancelling its electric car project, Apple's next moonshot project is said to be personal robots for homes.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple has a new robotics division headed by AI chief John Giannandrea and senior executives Matt Costello and Brian Lynch.
A division is reportedly considering two projects currently. The first is a tabletop device with a robotic arm that would move a display to follow a user.
The second, which is considerably more ambitious, is a robot which could navigate itself around a home and even do simple chores like washing dishes.
While these all sound exciting, it's obvious that Apple has significant challenges to overcome. Furthermore, these projects are said to be in their very early stages and it is unclear at this point if Apple will even pursue them. Even so, imagine a robot that could do your dishes. That would be something.
