According to Bloomberg's report, Apple's smart home strategy seems to be expanding into the smart home doorbell category.

The report claimed that Apple is developing a smart home doorbell with "advanced facial recognition" that could integrate with third-party HomeKit locks.

The smart home doorbell is said to scan the user's face and automatically unlock doors, similar to Face ID unlocking on the iPhone/iPad. It is also said to be equipped with Apple's custom networking chip.

As the development of the smart home doorbell is still in the early stages, Bloomberg expects it to arrive only "before the end of next year at the soonest". It remains to be seen if Apple will find a partner in the smart home doorbell market and offer an all-in-one package.

Recent rumours suggest that Apple is making another major push into the smart home market. Several smart home devices are rumoured to be in the pipeline, including a tabletop device with a robotic arm, a smart home display that looks like an iMac G4, a smart home IP cameraa HomePod with an OLED screen, a new Apple TV, and a HomePod mini.

A new operating system, dubbed homeOS, is also believed to be developed for these smart home devices.
