BYD’s lineup of cars in Singapore has just grown thanks to the new Seal 6. A new Cat A COE offering that is BYD’s most affordable sedan yet. If you are confused because BYD already has a car called the Seal, then think of the Seal 6 as a smaller version of the Seal that we reviewed last year.
In terms of styling, the new Seal 6 more closely resembles the Atto 3 than the Seal, thanks to the bar that joins the two headlights and the strip of DRL (daytime running light) that stretches across the full width of the front end. However, like the Seal, the Seal 6 also has a liftback body shape that is more aerodynamically efficient.
The interior features ventilated front passenger seats and a 12.8-inch infotainment display.
To qualify for a Cat A COE, the Seal 6 has a single electric motor that produces 127hp and 220nm of torque. This drives the rear wheels and sends the car from a standstill to 100km/h in 10.9 seconds. The claimed WLTC range of its 56.64kWh battery is 425km. BYD says that with a powerful enough DC charger, it can get from a 30% charge to 80% in around 25 minutes. See how it stacks up against other BYD models in a snapshot:-
BYD Seal 6 | BYD Seal (Dynamic) | BYD Atto 3 (100kW) | BYD Atto 2 | BYD Dolphin | |
Power | 127hp | 134hp | 100kW | 100kW (134hp) | 70kW (94hp) |
Battery | 56.64kWh | 61.44kWh | 60.5kWh | 51.1kWh | 44.9kWh |
Range | ~425km | ~460km | ~400km | ~345km | ~300km |
Time to Charge | 25 mins (30% to 80% mark, 100kW charging) | 32 mins (30% to 80% mark, 110kW charging) | 30 mins (30% to 80% mark, 80kW charging) or 42 mins (20% to 80% mark, 50kW charging) | 28 mins (30% to 80% mark) | 30 mins (20% to 80% mark, 60kW charging) |
While its performance might be nothing to get excited over, its suite of features and standard equipment is a different story. To start, it has ventilated front seats, a large panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, support for Android Auto and CarPlay, and a host of safety features, including a 360° camera, auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and more. Claimed boot capacity is 460L, and it also has a 65L frunk (nearly 10% more than the original Seal).
But the biggest selling point of the Seal 6 is how much more affordable it is compared to the Seal. With prices starting at S$179,888, it costs about S$23,000 less than a Cat A Seal (at the time of reporting).
