I didn’t expect my favourite car of 2025 to be a large family MPV, but the Zeekr 009 Flagship was the car that left the deepest impression on me this year. I’ll list some reasons why.
To start, it’s humongous. With its large highly adjustable seats that are covered in soft Nappa leather, if your passengers cannot get comfortable inside this, then they will not be able to get comfortable in any car. You should probably also take them to an orthopaedist. Its size also means it’s practical. You can seat five in the back in comfort and still have a boot large enough for some luggage.
It also has loads of features and toys to titillate and delight. There’s a massive 17-inch screen that comes down to entertain passengers in the back. This is complemented by a 30-speaker Yamaha audio system and even includes speakers built into the seats. And if that’s not enough, there’s even a fridge nestled in the back of the centre console that gets cold enough to store ice cream.
The first row passenger seats are immensely comfortable.
And speaking of its interior, it’s more luxuriously appointed than its rivals. Everywhere you see and touch is either leather, suede, or some sort of soft touch material. Zeekr really wants you to know that you are in a luxury MPV – not just any old MPV.
Most of all, the reason it left such a deep impression with me is that it has an eye-popping 603hp and 700nm. That’s not a typo; this MPV is as powerful as most sports cars. When you pin the accelerator, it’s genuinely frightening the way it builds speed. I’ve never experienced a car this big overtake other cars this effortlessly. Everyone I took on a ride screamed when I gave it the beans.
But it’s not without some issues. There are other MPVs in its class which ride better, and it isn’t keen to change directions. I must also admit that parking is a chore because of its size; and then there’s its ridiculous road tax. But really, these are minor niggles for a car that can do so many things so well. For these reasons, it’s the best car I drove in 2025.
