Apple is working on a HomePod with an iPad-like display, but the device is unlikely to arrive anytime soon.

An Apple HomePod with an iPad-like display is unlikely to launch this year according to Bloomberg.

Mark Gurman claims in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple has not made much progress on several smart home products that he reported last year, which includes the HomePod with an iPad-like display.

As a recap, Gurman reported in January last year that Apple was working on several smart home devices such as "a low-end iPad" that can control thermostats and lights, smart home displays that are bigger than the entry-level iPad, and a hybrid product that combines the functionality of a HomePod and Apple TV with FaceTime camera

References to a HomePod with an iPad-like display surfaced in October 2023 when 9to5Mac discovered evidence within the tvOS 17.2 beta. While Gurman confirmed that Apple is still working on the device and has approached overseas suppliers about it, he thinks that the earliest possible launch would be sometime in 2025.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote about the device in March 2023 and shared that it would sport a 7-inch display. The HomePod with the iPad-like display is rumoured to offer "tighter integration with Apple's other hardware products".

In the interim, Apple seems to be working on an upcoming HomePod with an LCD display that has a bigger footprint than the touch panel on the second-generation HomePod. 9to5Mac claims to have verified the existence of this product with its sources and states that as an advanced-stage prototype, it might launch later this year.
