Google’s new Pixel Buds Pro 2 features better sound, improved fit, ANC, and of course, AI

Unlike a certain other company, Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 didn’t copy someone else’s design.

It’s taken two years, but Google has finally announced the Pixel Buds Pro 2, the company’s newest flagship earbuds.

Unlike a certain other company, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 retains its predecessor's bean-like design, but with some notable improvements. According to Google, these new earbuds are 24% lighter and 27% smaller, and their shape is the result of analysing 45 million ear scans. Where they find so many ears, I do not know. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 also has a “twist-to-adjust stabilizer” that aims to deliver a more secure fit. It also comes with four ear tips of varying sizes so it’s easier to find one that matches your ears.

Inside the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is the Tensor A1 chip. This chip handles music processing and the active noise cancellation feature. Google says this chip has a dedicated processing path for music so audio is “clear, balanced, and better than ever.” As for the ANC feature, Google says the Tensor A1 chip analyses noise from the environment up to 3 million times per second. Along with the improved fit, Google claims the Pixel Buds Pro 2 cancels two times more noise.

Unsurprisingly, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 supports Gemini – Google’s AI service. This lets users can ask their Pixel Buds Pro 2 for walking directions, reminders, song recommendations, and more. You can do all this even if your phone is locked and in your pocket. But if you unlock your phone, you can activate Gemini Live and have a real-time conversation with Gemini where you can ask it questions or discuss new ideas.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 also supports Google’s Find My Device network. It also has a built-in speaker in the charging case, which you can activate should you misplace them. On the subject of the charging case, claimed battery life on a single charge is up to 8 hours with ANC on, and 30 hours total with the charging case. Those numbers are slightly above average for true wireless earbuds.
