The AirPods could get a live translation feature later this year.
Bloomberg claims that the live translation feature will be rolled out for current and upcoming AirPods models as part of the iOS 19 update later this year.
In the report, Bloomberg says the feature will work using a combination of the AirPods and iPhone, which will allow the person wearing AirPods to have a conversation with someone else in a foreign language.
When the person wearing the AirPods is conversing with someone in a foreign language, the AirPods will pick up the foreign language, translate it, and play the translation through the AirPods. When the AirPods wearer is ready to respond, the AirPods will pick up the response, translate it, and play the response in the foreign language through the iPhone's speakers.
It is worth mentioning that live translation features already existed on competitor products as early as 2017. The first-generation Google Pixel Buds, which integrates with Google Assistant, were one of the first earbuds to deliver real-time language translation.
The Mars wireless earbuds, which were released in 2018, also offered real-time language translations. That's not all, Samsung's Buds3 series can interpret and translate when paired with the Galaxy Z Fold6 or Z Flip6.
Additionally, Apple is also expected to give the Translate app a significant update in iOS 19. Speaking of which, a recent report says iOS 19 will have a dramatic interface redesign to look and feel more like visionOS.
