Best TV Brand - Samsung

Tech Awards Readers' Choice 2024 Best TV Brand

Samsung is once again your Best TV Brand, with 28% of the votes. This number has tracked well over the past year and is similar to the results Samsung garnered last Tech Awards. Samsung probably has the most screens across different categories (including lifestyle TVs), sizes, and display technologies (such QLED and OLED), which may be the reason for such strong brand recall year-on-year. Adding to its range, Samsung is also the only TV brand in the industry with a high focus on design, usability and practicality. For example, the One Connect box enables huge flexibility in TV placement while also allowing it to be stowed behind the screen if needed, object tracking sound, smart TV calibration, a compact and friendly remote that's solar powered, Multi View to display up to 4 different content streams concurrently, and their most recent addition is their OLED Glare Free technology, which is no gimmick.

The big surprise was LG, picking up four percentage points, going from 18% last year, to 22% this year. While technical improvements between 2023 and 2024 TV models were modest, we speculate that LG is still riding high from their impressive transparent OLED showing earlier this year at CES. LG's gain seems to have come at Sony's expense however, who saw its popularity drop from 17% (third place) last year to 13% (fourth place) this year. Also because of this, local brand Prism+ moved up into third place with 18% of votes.

Best Soundbar Brand - Bose

Tech Awards Readers' Choice 2024 Best Soundbar Brand

Bose’s again won first place in our Best Soundbar Brand category with a share that is largely unchanged from last year. The brand remains comfortably ahead of the competition in a category that routinely sees very close fights for all other positions. Bang & Olufsen (B&O) for example, only lost one percentage point, but it was enough drop second place last year, to fourth. JBL and Sonos (last year’s third and fourth-placed winners) each clawed their way up one spot, their share of votes again, only increased by one percentage point each.

Best Mini Projector Brand - Lumos

Tech Awards Readers' Choice 2024 Best Mini Projector Brand

The Best Mini Projector Brand category was introduced in 2021 as we saw rapid adoption and interest in small, portable entertainment systems at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. It continues to be a category with one of the most participating brands. However, we do recognise that product development isn't as frequent as other display technologies, and most brands do not have new models every year. While last year's winner, Samsung, released the Freestyle 2nd Gen model in 2023, it had barely any display improvements. Perhaps it's because of this that Lumos managed to pick up the win again with their wide range of affordable mini projectors that's sufficient for ad-hoc usage.

Best Home Theatre Projector Brand - Samsung

Tech Awards Readers' Choice 2024 Best Home Theatre Projector Brand

Samsung and Sony are again placed first and second, with Samsung’s share of votes unchanged at 21%. For those who're unaware, Samsung does have high-end home projector offerings, even if it's just two models. Sony however, saw a slight dip with its share of votes to 20%. It was still a very close race with under 100 total votes between the two. Epson and BenQ retain their third and fourth-placed positions. One possible reason why Epson and BenQ made little leeway on the leaders this year could be that they released 4K projectors positioned for gaming rather than general entertainment, like the Epson EH-TW6250 Smart Gaming Projector and the new BenQ X3100i and X300G models.

That wraps up the Readers' Choice voting segment for the Best of Home Entertainment, but don't forget to check out the results in these other categories too:-
