Days after rolling out "HD Photos" option for users, WhatsApp confirmed with TechCrunch that HD video support is also available.
HD video support is being rolled out to Android and iOS users and allows users to send 720p videos. Previously, videos sent over WhatsApp were capped at 480p resolution. WhatsApp was testing the HD video feature with selected beta users last month.
Similar to HD Photos, there is an HD option at the top of the screen after you've selected the video, which would then allow you to send it to your chosen recipient at a resolution of 718 x 1,280 pixels if it's a portrait format or 1,280 x 720 pixels if it's in a landscape format. At the time of publication, HD Video is available on WhatsApp for iOS and Android users in Singapore.
