It's finally here. Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post earlier today that users can finally edit their WhatsApp messages after they are sent. Just last week, the service was reportedly testing the "edit" feature on Android.

This can be used to correct simple misspellings or to add context to a message or change it entirely.

Obviously, there will be a time limit and that limit is 15 minutes. This time limit is the same as the Messages app in iOS, but much shorter than the 48 hours time limit of Telegram

To edit a message, simply long-press on a sent message and choose "Edit" from the drop-down menu.

Edited messages will have an "edited" label next to them so users will know that the original message has been modified.

However, the app doesn't keep the correction history so other users will not be able to see older versions of the edited message.

In the release, WhatsApp is also keen to remind users that edited messages are, "as with all personal messages, media and calls," protected by end-to-end encryption.

Don't worry if you don't see the feature in your app yet because it's been gradually rolled out to users worldwide. WhatsApp did not give a specific timeline but it did say that it "will be available to everyone in the coming weeks."
