Apple introduced a new Find My Network Accessory Program as part of iOS 14 at WWDC 2020.
The draft Find My Network Accessory Specification is stated to be for any developer who is looking to connect an existing or new accessory to the Find My Network. This means third-party products and services can work with the Find My app and help users locate their items. The final Find My Network Accessory Specification is expected to be available by the end of the year.
The Find My app currently helps users locate their iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods. Even if the missing device is offline or sleeping, the Find My app will send out Bluetooth signals that can be detected by Apple devices in use nearby and share the detected location to iCloud.
Apple is expected to unveil its AirTags item trackers sometime this year. They are said to make use of the U1 chip in the iPhone 11 to pinpoint positions of other ultra wideband devices. The AirTags are reportedly bundled with an Apple-designed leather sleeve and a keychain to attach to items.
