The rumours were right. Spotify is increasing its subscription fees again in the US.
In a blog post, Spotify announced the new subscription prices for its Individual, Duo, Family, and Student plans. The new prices will take effect in July.
Below is a summary of the price changes:
Individual | Duo | Family | Student | |
New price | US$11.99 | US$16.99 | US$19.99 | No change |
Old price | US$10.99 | US$14.99 | US$16.99 | US$5.99 |
Spotify's justification for this price hike is that it's necessary for the company to "continue to invest in and innovate" its product offerings and features, and bring the best experience to consumers.
This is the second price hike in a year. Spotify raised the subscription fees in the US and other countries including Singapore about 11 months ago in July 2023.
Earlier in April, Spotify increased the subscription fees for consumers in the UK, Australia, Pakistan, and two other markets. Looking at the trend, it is only a matter of time before Spotify implements the price hike in Singapore.
There is no news on the rumoured premium tier with lossless audio. This new tier has been rumoured since 2021, but it appears that little progress has been made.
