Snapchat’s new Story Explorer is sort of like Twitter’s Moments
Snapchat wants to make it even easier for users to find out about each and every moment. With Story Explorer, it's possible to view a concert through the eyes of Snapchat users seated all across the stadium.

Snapchat is in the midst of rolling out a new feature for users, called Story Explorer. It builds on the existing Live Stories feature – a curated list of user-submitted content – and allows users to dive deeper into a specific Snap that they see.
That’s actually cooler than it sounds. Swiping up on a particular moment that interests you will reveal more Snaps of the same moment, but from different perspectives.
What this means is that you’ll be able to check out that particular game-winning goal or moment at the concert from multiple perspectives throughout the event venue, provided there are Snapchat users in the audience of course. But considering that Snapchat is one of the fastest growing messaging services with an actively engaged user base – the last count put it at 100 million daily users with 65% of these users contributing content – this shouldn’t be a problem.

If this sounds familiar, that’s because you’re probably reminded of Twitter’s new Moments feature, which offers curated lists comprising a mix of content from both users and official news outlets.
Story Explorer looks to be part of a growing impetus among social media companies to offer event-specific content discovery and better leverage on user content. On Halloween, Instagram also toyed around with something called “Best Videos”, featuring curated videos of an assortment of ghouls, trick-or-treaters, and other festivities. In a similar vein, Facebook announced in October that it had indexed over 2 trillion posts on its site and made them searchable, so users could now tune in to ongoing conversations about current events.
For now, Story Explorer will see a limited roll out on the New York and Los Angeles Live Stories, but plans are in the works to expand it to other locations.
