Another day, another Windows 10 build for Insiders in the Fast ring. This time, it’s Build 10586, which focuses on bug fixes.
The significance of this build is that this is widely expected to be the Windows 10 Fall Update (a.k.a. Threshold 2) build that will be rolled out to the public next week, assuming no further fixes between now and then.
For most Windows 10 users who are on the RTM build (10240), this Fall Update is a major update, with lots of UI tweaks and new features, such as color titled bars, improved context menus, tab previews and media casting in Edge, Skype IM integration in the Messaging app, and a Skype Video app.
After the Fall Update is official, we expect Windows 7 and 8.1 users who’re doing their Windows 10 upgrade to be served this build directly. There should also be new ISOs for those who prefer a clean install. With the improved activation process, you can now enter a Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product key (used to activate the prior Windows version on the same device) to activate Windows 10. And if you do a clean install of Windows 10 by booting off the media, you can also enter the product key from prior Windows versions on qualifying devices during setup.
Update, Nov 10: Build 10586 is now in the Slow ring too.
