Following reports of Huawei developing its own mobile OS, CEO Richard Yu shared his thoughts on his Weibo account. He states that Huawei will continue to use Android as long as Google maintains the openness of the mobile platform. Yu also praised Android; it has promoted the development of smartphones which in turn benefits consumers.

As Yu did not deny or confirm the development of a proprietary OS, it can be taken as a hint that there is some truth in these reports. Central to the development of the mobile OS is Abigail Brody, the Chinese company's Chief UX designer. Brody was one of the chief designers behind the first iPhone and assisted in defining both OS X and Apple pro apps for about ten years.
