Facebook jumps on the passkeys bandwagon by adding support to its mobile app.

Available soon on iOS and Android, passkeys offer a faster and more secure way to log in to Facebook than passwords or one-time SMS codes.

For the uninitiated, passkeys are a type of login credential developed by the FIDO Alliance, with Meta as an active member. They allow you to sign in to apps and websites using the same method you use to unlock your device, like a fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN.

Once a passkey is set up for Facebook, it can also be used to autofill payment information securely with Meta Pay, log in to Messenger, and protect encrypted message backups. Meta also confirmed that passkey support for Messenger will be available in the coming months.

Meta rolled out passkey support on Android in 2023 before bringing it to iOS in 2024. Other tech brands such as Amazon, Apple, Google, and TikTok have adopted passkeys.
