It’s coming sooner than we’d expect.

With Apple’s and OpenAI’s partnership still going strong, it’s only a matter of time before Apple Intelligence will start using the new ChatGPT model by OpenAI, GPT-5.

9To5Mac confirmed that GPT-5’s integration is coming to Apple Intelligence and Siri as early as iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. The update goes live as early as “next month” (September 2025).

The new AI model’s implementation is likely similar to existing ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence, where it requires the user’s permission, but does not access the data of the Apple account when in use.

GPT-5 was launched in early August 2025, with OpenAI introducing three variants that vary in reasoning depth, efficiency, and speed. The unique model doesn’t require instructions on which variant to use, as it automatically switches between the three behind the scenes.

Apple is also expected to announce its new mainline iPhone handsets in the same month as iOS 26, with a keynote said to happen on the week of 8 September 2025.
