We managed to snag a Burgundy Red edition Galaxy S9+ for a closer look. In case you're wondering, there's no S9 edition and it only comes in one capacity - 128GB. That's fine by us considering that the S9+ is the superior one and 128GB is generally plenty enough storage and is easily expandable via microSD.

As you might have noticed, the red tone is actually darker than the marketing would have you believe, but it's just the right balance that would appeal to both genders. The phone scatters a more vibrant 'red laser' tone when there's more light reflecting off it and even then, it's a narrow band that's well defined by the angle of light hitting the phone's surface beneath its glass exterior.

Here's another look at the Burgundy red edition Galaxy S9+ in a different angle. This will give you a good idea how the phone would look and feel as you handle it at different angles.

In case you're thinking of using a transparent TPU case, which is supplied in the packaging, the degree of light reflecting off the device is far reduced and thus the phone appears less vibrant. However, if you don't use any case, the phone will pick up fingerprints very easily and you really don't want to keep wiping it down to upkeep its look. Decisions, decisions...

Turn it over and you would be hard pressed to differentiate this against any other Galaxy S8 or S9 device. That's because of its Infinity screen that occupies much of the front real estate.

And when  you look at it the device directly in front, you won't see any hint of its Burgundy Red color. Absolutely none.

Much to our surprise, the device ships with color-matched in-ear headphones tuned by AKG and not the usual run of the mill black ones. Burgundy Red is indeed special.

Also introduced recently is a somewhat matching red Hyperknit case. Available for S$48, the Hyperknit case features a 'woven material' feel. It's also very light and adds a mild grip to the the otherwise smooth device. Will it match this phone?

It does make the phone look more sporty, but looks are subjective - so let us know if you fancy this look.

And here's how the rear looks like with the red Hyperknit cover. Your phone now has a layer of protection with added grip, but sadly you lose the brilliance of the Burgundy Red color of the phone.
