Best of Tech Brands in Gaming: Readers' Choice Series

We have declared Singapore's favourite gaming brands, as voted by you. #techawards2024 #readerschoice

The Readers’ Choice series of Tech Awards 2024 is a follow-up to the Editor’s Choice series, and unlike the latter where our editorial team picks the best products after rounds of tests and benchmarks, it is our readers like you who vote for your favourite tech brands, products or services in our annual poll.

Now in its 15th year, our Readers’ Choice provides a clear message of real consumer sentiment and brand recognition across the tech industry. This year, we have 47 award categories for polling, and after a month of compiling the results from thousands of our readers, we're ready to share the outcome to help Singaporeans make an informed buying decision and highlight why these brands came out ahead.

This article is the final part (out of 8) and covers eight out of 47 awards that comprise the Best of Gaming category. Be sure to check out the rest the results from all the other categories that have been published previously. Meanwhile, here are the contents of this article:-

  1. Best Gaming Monitor Brand
  2. Best Gaming Keyboard & Mouse Brand
  3. Best Gaming Headset Brand
  4. Best Gaming Desktop PC Brand
  5. Best Gaming Laptop Brand
  6. Best Gaming Console Brand
  7. Best Gaming Publisher for PC & Consoles
  8. Best Gaming Publisher for Mobile

Best Gaming Monitor Brand - ASUS/ROG

Once again, ASUS and its gaming sub-brand ROG have been voted as the Best Gaming Monitor Brand by our readers. It’s no surprise though, given how the company has always been one of the leading innovators in this sector. For instance, the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD is a fantastic 49-inch ultrawide gaming monitor that has a built-in Smart KVM feature – it also earned our Editor’s Choice Best Ultrawide Gaming Monitor award.

While ASUS saw its share increase from last year’s 19% to 23%, elsewhere, we see some interesting changes: Prism+ retains its second position but saw a dip in its share to 13% (it scored 17% last year), Samsung dropped from third to fourth, and sharing the same spot is Dell/Alienware. Compared to last year’s results, it seems like ASUS’s gains were all at the expense of the three brands behind it. However, all its competitors have been aggressively launching their new product updates in recent months, and their share of voice could change for the better in the following year.

Best Gaming Keyboard & Mouse Brand - Logitech

Razer fans surely tried, but ultimately lost out to the higher – albeit just – Logitech vote count. Logitech's 26% of the votes, though, is a drop from last year’s 29%. Razer also saw a drop from last year’s 27% to 25% here. ASUS ROG, on the other hand, saw a sliver of gain – it went up from 17% to 18%. ROG has been putting out some impressive keyboards (such as the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile and the insane-looking Azoth Extreme), and it will be interesting to see if it will continue to chip away more votes from Logitech and Razer next year.

Best Gaming Headset Brand - Razer

Razer takes home the Best Gaming Headset Brand popularity once again. While the top three standings remain the same as last year, Razer and Logitech saw a dip in their shares while ASUS ROG retains the same 14% share. So where did the votes go to? Well, they mostly went to brands like Bang & Olufsen (B&O) and Creative, going up to 9% and 8% respectively in 2024. Last year, both brands were lower by 2%. This is interesting, as B&O and Creative offerings are on opposite ends of the pricing spectrum and show how varied our voters are in terms of budget and taste.

Best Gaming Desktop PC Brand - ASUS/ROG

For the first time in three years, our readers have decided on a different brand as their favourite gaming desktop PC. Say hello to ASUS ROG, pipping Aftershock by the smallest of margins at 1% – it’s quite a shocker (pun intended), really. That said, ASUS has made some pretty good strides here in 2024, offering a variety of custom-built and ready-made PCs, including the very popular NUC series – which the company took over from Intel. Yet, both brands actually saw a drop in their vote counts compared to last year, with brands like Dell Alienware, Lenovo Legion and MSI each gaining a small but meaningful single-digit increase in their respective share of this pie chart.

Best Gaming Laptop Brand - ASUS/ROG

ASUS ROG has retained the Best Gaming Laptop Brand that it won from Aftershock last year. However, unlike last year’s Readers’ Choice, which was closely fought between the two brands (just a razor-thin 1% separated both), this year sees a wider gulf, with ASUS taking an 11% lead over its nearest competitor in 2024. Aftershock’s huge loss is hard to put a finger on, but their gaming laptop line-up over the past year hasn’t been very inspiring or notable, and voters might have felt the same way. In contrast, the likes of ROG, Alienware and even Legion have been pushing the performance and design boundaries of their gaming laptops. Have you seen the really good Legion 9i or the ROG Strix Scar 16?

Best Gaming Console Brand - Sony

From our experience, the Readers’ Choice Best Gaming Console Brand usually remains unchanged during a console’s generation lifecycle. This year’s result pretty much remains unchanged from last year, with Sony still dominating its competitors. In fact, it even took two points off Microsoft this year – increasing its share to 47% in 2024. Nintendo’s 37% remains unchanged. Next year, we could see a more dramatic change in the vote count for all three platforms; Nintendo will launch the successor to the Switch and Sony is very likely to release a “Pro” version of the PlayStation 5. Do not underestimate the launch of Rockstar’s seismic Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025 too, which will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and will have an impact on a console brand’s mindshare among gamers.

Best Gaming Publisher for PC & Consoles - Nintendo

Nintendo may have been the bridesmaid in our Readers’ Choice Best Gaming Console Brand category, but they are our readers’ favourite gaming publisher for the third year in a row now. Nintendo’s 15% of the vote count remains unchanged from 2023. Elsewhere, the results are more interesting. For instance, last year’s second-place Activision Blizzard dropped to fourth place with 10% of the votes. It’s not surprising, considering the negative publicity that has been plaguing the publisher over the last couple of years, leading up to its unpopular acquisition by Microsoft in late 2023. Sony’s 12% is enough to move it up to second place, thanks to a stellar line-up of (surprise, surprise) PlayStation games that were ported to the PC, including Returnal, God of War and Spider-Man: Mile Morales.

Best Gaming Publisher for Mobile - Apple Arcade

Our Readers’ Choice for Best Gaming Publisher for Mobile is a new category and allows our readers to vote and pay tributes to their favourite mobile games’ publishers. Our inaugural winner for this category is Apple Arcade, a Netflix-style subscription gaming service with 26% of the vote count. For S$9.98/month, Apple users get access to more than 200 games, including great titles such as Stardew ValleySonic Dream Team and the old-school JRPG Fantasian. It’s really a goldmine. Gameloft, the publisher of games such as Asphalt Legends and Disney Speedstorm takes second place with 21%. The most surprising result, though, is the low vote count for Mihoyo (also known as Hoyoverse) and Moontoon, who published mega-hits like Genshin Impact and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, respectively. Let’s see where 2025 will take them.

That wraps up the Readers' Choice voting segment for the Best of Service Providers, but don't forget to check out the results in these other categories:-
