LG TVs are first to earn Netflix Recommended TV designation
Streaming high quality 4K video content smoothly is just one part of the internet TV experience, but there are other factors that only TV manufacturers can control. Netflix is committed to bring quality experience and to that end, it has rolled out a new logo recommendation program to help consumers.
Today at LG's press conference, chief streaming and content partnership officer at Netflix, Greg Peters, shared the limelight with LG executives as he announced the launch of a new certification program called the Netflix Recommended TV.
The goal of this program is to communicate to consumers that a TV with this designation and logo will deliver the best internet TV streaming experience - not only in terms of content reproduction quality, but also with consideration of accessibility, ease of use and streaming performance of internet TV. In short, to signify excellence in internet TV viewing experience.
Greg highlighted the tremendous user experience improvements that LG's WebOS has made for the Smart TV platform and we wholeheartedly agree on that note. LG's WebOS 2.0 takes it up a notch to have speedier start-up and switching performance, more customized menu management among others.
Of course, there will be other relevant TV brands/models that will also sport this logo branding and Netflix says consumers should be able to notice this in retail from Spring 2015.
Building on last year's capability of delivering 4K video content over the internet, streamed from Netflix of course, to LG's 2014 WebOS enabled TVs, the next big push for Netflix is to deliver HDR (high dynamic range) video to further improve on the quality of content. In Greg's words, the goal is not only to deliver more pixels (UHD 4K), but also better pixels. HDR video content is coming to Netflix later this year and of course to LG TVs (among others).
LG's WebOS plays a big part in delivering an easy to use platform for internet TV and Netflix has identified it as an important enough aspect to commission a new Netflix TV Recommendation programme.
