WB Games Montréal have finally revealed their next game - and we saw it coming back in 2019.
Revealed at DC FanDome, developer WB Games Montréal’s next game is Gotham Knights! The developer has been teasing this project for years, having not released a game since 2013’s Arkham Origins. As it turns out, almost every rumour about this videogame has turned out to be true in some capacity.
Watch the reveal trailer in 4K below:

Gotham Knights begins with some tragic news: Batman is dead - killed in a mysterious explosion. In a posthumous message to his family, he tells them to continue protecting Gotham City while he’s gone. Players can take control of four members of the Batfamily: Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Red Hood (Jason Todd), Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) and Robin (Tim Drake).
Gotham Knights will be a cross-generation title, launching on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC in 2021. In a strange twist, Gotham Knights will not be set in the same universe as the Arkham games, unlike Rocksteady Studios’ upcoming Suicide Squad game.
Gotham Knights will also be fully playable in two-player online co-op, which means that you can play through the entire game with a buddy. Unlike the Arkham series, enemies now also come with levels and hitpoint bars, which means more RPG mechanics will be present in the game than before. Enemies will also scale with the player’s level, and gain more complicated movesets and abilities at higher levels.

Gotham Knights will also feature an open-world Gotham City with five distinct boroughs for players to explore. Each Batfamily member can get around the city in different ways (Robin seems to be able to teleport around the city), but all of them have access to a speedy Batcycle.
Gotham City itself has been overrun by criminals in the wake of Batman’s death - but the main antagonists of this game lie in the shadows: the Court of Owls. Iconic members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery, this cult-like group of criminals have controlled Gotham for centuries, with the help of brainwashed super-assassins called Talons. We interviewed one of their creators a while back - Greg Capullo!
Interestingly, WB Games Montréal mentioned that the Court of Owls will be the least of our heroes’ worries in this story. What else could possibly be lurking in the shadows?
