Blizzard Entertainment has revealed a host of new features coming to Diablo IV in the upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion. The announcement was made during Gamescom’s Xbox live stream and introduces the all-new mercenary and Dark Citadel content.

The expansion will introduce players to Nahantu, a vast jungle region plagued by corrupted monsters and dark forces. This new area is divided into several subregions, each with its own unique challenges and enemies, including the predatory Lacuni and the venom-infested Skittering Earth.

One of the most significant additions to the Vessel of Hatred expansion is the addition of the Mercenary system. Players will be able to recruit four distinct companions: Raheir the Shieldbearer, Aldkin the Cursed Child, Varyana the Berserker Crone, and Subo the Bounty Hunter. These AI-controlled allies will fight alongside players, each bringing unique abilities and backstories to the game.

The expansion also introduces the Dark Citadel, a new cooperative endgame activity at the heart of Nahantu. The dungeon challenges groups of players to overcome three distinct wings, each filled with unique obstacles and battles requiring players to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. At the end, players will have to confront the final boss, battling against the first khazra and their demonic experiments. Upon completion, players are rewarded with exclusive cosmetics and a weekly cache of valuable item

To help players find teammates for these challenges, Blizzard is implementing a new Party Finder tool. This feature will allow players to easily connect with others for various activities, from tackling nightmare dungeons to summoning endgame bosses.

Another addition is the Kurast Undercity, a time-attack dungeon that offers intense gameplay and valuable rewards. Players will race against the clock, fighting through hordes of demons to reach powerful bosses and earn unique loot.

Finally, besides gameplay content, Blizzard has also teased upcoming progression updates that fundamentally change how players level and advance their characters. These changes aim to make the levelling process more rewarding and give players access
