Bethesda has released a major update for Starfield, bringing in new features, improvements, and content to the game. The August Update (1.13.61), showcased during Gamescom 2024 introduces the game’s first land vehicle dubbed the Rev-8 and a host of performance enhancements to the game.

Starting with the star of the update is the Rev-8, a rugged land cruiser that aids players in their planetary exploration. Players can acquire the rover by visiting a ship technician in any major city to install a vehicle module. Once equipped, the Rev-8 will automatically deploy outside the player’s ship upon landing, ready for use.

Based on the trailer, the Rev-8 looks like it's well-equipped, with a mounted turret and protective armour to boost your defence. There’s also an advanced booster to allow for quick escapes and jumps that allows you to access previously hard-to-reach areas. If you don’t like the way Rev-8's default looks, the vehicle can be customised with unique colour schemes to make it uniquely yours.

Besides the new vehicle, the update brings in a variety of enhanced performance options which can be useful for Xbox players. Players can now choose from various frame rate targets, including 30, 40, 60, or uncapped frame rates on Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) displays. The update also introduces options to prioritise visuals or performance and the ability to toggle VSync on or off.

Update 1.13.61 also addresses numerous bugs and introduces various improvements across the game. General performance and stability have been enhanced, and fixes have been implemented for gameplay issues, including weapon animations and NPC interactions. Ship-related mechanics have been improved, and graphics have received updates, such as enhanced reflections in shallow puddles. The user interface has also been refined to work better with different screen resolutions.

Aside from the vehicle and performance update which is now available for download, the trailer also teased the upcoming Shattered Space DLC, which will launch on 30 Sep. The story expansion will take place on the homeworld of House Va'Ruun, introducing a new planet, weapons, spacesuits, and additional gear, further expanding the Starfield experience.
