As part of PlayStation's 30th Anniversary celebrations, Sony has released a revamp of the PS5's menu for a limited time, available now through an update.

After installing the update, users will be greeted by the iconic PS1 startup sequence along with a special 30th Anniversary screen, and cued to an 'Appearance and Sound' menu where they can change their system's theme to match that of the past generations of PlayStation consoles, from the PS1 to PS4. A special 30th Anniversary theme is available as well.

Elements such as backgrounds for the game selection screen will take inspiration from the previous generations of consoles, from the blue cubic theme of the PS2 to the wavy theme of the PS3. Certain sounds, such as switching between and selecting menu items, are also affected.

No matter which theme you go with, though, the PS1 startup sequence will remain consistent, which is a nice touch whenever you're booting up your PS5 until the update period is over.

This new feature also comes among other PlayStation 30th Anniversary efforts, including a retro-styled PS5 and PS5 Pro earlier in September that quickly sold out. Unlike that, though, this update is free for all PS5s.

Again, this update is available for a limited time only. Given that there's only a month left till the year ends, you might want to check it out now if you have a PS5. One can only hope that Sony looks at the reception to this and decides to keep it a little while longer.
