This isn't the Zelda game we wanted, but it’ll do.
Nintendo has just announced a new Legend of Zelda game developed with Koei Tecmo games. The game will act as a sequel to Hyrule Warriors and a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the game will launch on November 20, 2020.
Watch the trailer:

This game is set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, featuring Link, Zelda and the four Champions; Daruk, Mipha, Revali and Urbosa. Calamity Ganon has come to Hyrule with vast armies of enemies, intent on destroying everything Link and Zelda have sworn to protect. Nintendo states that the game will have, “a robust story that depicts the events, relationships and dramatic moments of the Great Calamity in captivating detail.”
The game will also bring over Breath of the Wild’s art style, while forgoing its gameplay. It’ll be a Persona Scramble-like Musou game instead, with hack-and-slash combat. Players can also, “solve environmental puzzles, unlock weapons and skills, craft materials, visit shops to obtain items and use the power of the Sheikah Slate.”
Breath of the Wild begins with Link waking up 100 years after Calamity Ganon succeeded in defeating every Champion and taking over Hyrule - so we know that this game won’t end well for the main cast. Hopefully, things turn out better for Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
