First revealed at The Game Awards 2024, Electronic Arts (EA) and developer Hazelight Studios have officially announced Split Fiction, a new title that marks the third in Hazelight's line of co-op adventure games, which include A Way Out and the award-winning It Takes Two.
To recap what we saw in the reveal trailer, Split Fiction follows sci-fi author Mio and fantasy author Zoe as they get stuck in a simulation of their stories. The game's main appeal is the ability to jump between different sci-fi and fantasy settings, which comes with the opportunity to combine each genre's conventional mechanics into one game.
You can take a look at a couple screenshots here to see the kind of genre whiplash you can expect:

From the trailer alone, you can see traits of motifs of both genres taking shape in the game, going from aesthetic design choices in their respective settings, to different movement mechanics, such as gravity bikes and playing as shape-shifting droids in a futuristic sci-fi world, to animal mounts in a lush fantasy environment.
The trailer also showcases some of the gameplay we can expect, including elements of platforming, light combat and collaborative puzzle-solving reminiscent of that in It Takes Two:

The game, directed by It Takes Two director Josef Fares, will see a global release on March 6th 2025 (March 7th in SGT). Split Fiction will also feature Hazelight's Friend's Pass, which only requires one person to actually own the paid game if you and a friend intend on playing co-op remotely.
This is similar to the Friend's Pass in It Takes Two. However, there is a notable change, as crossplay options between PlayStation, Xbox and PC (through Steam) will be available. You can also play through couch co-op as well.
Split Fiction is available for pre-order now, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the EA App for S$64.90. Take note, though, it will need 85GB of storage, about 1.7 times that of It Takes Two, a good indicator for the size of Split Fiction's world that Hazelight Studios is promising.
