Acer has joined the gaming handheld fray with its latest announcement at IFA 2024: the Nitro Blaze 7.
But unlike current competitors like the ROG Ally X or Lenovo Legion Go, Acer is taking a slightly different route in terms of hardware. While both the Ally X and Legion Go are powered by the mobile-optimised AMD Z1 Extreme processor, the Acer has opted for a Ryzen 8000 HS-class laptop processor in a similar way that MSI has opted for a Core Ultra 200V (aka Lunar Lake) for its upcoming Claw 8 AI gaming handheld.
Looks wise, the Nitro Blaze 7 isn’t going for subtlety. Surrounding the 7-inch 1080p display (with a 144Hz refresh rate) is a chassis that feels like a throwback to gaming’s edgier era of the late 2000s. The black chassis is broken up by red and white accents, and Acer’s thrown in some white markers around the joysticks that look more design than for any practical use. It’s definitely a louder look compared to the more muted aesthetics we’ve seen from other gaming handhelds. It’s also arguably the only handheld that literally screams “gamer”.
Acer has not revealed any launch or price information, but considering the hardware onboard I reckon it’s not likely to come cheap in comparisons to existing gaming handhelds. Here are the rest of the key specifications:
- AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor
- AMD Radeon 780M integrated GPU
- 7" Full HD (1920x1080) IPS Display, 144 Hz, 500 nits, 10-point touch panel, 7ms response time

- 2 x USB4 ports, Micro SD Card
- 50Wh Li-Polymer Battery
