Nintendo Direct in tandem with Indie World had just wrapped up and though brief, the showcase unveiled a plethora of upcoming Switch Games. While news of the Switch’s successor remains under wraps, the company showcased a variety of games from indie and third-party developers. 

If you missed the live broadcast, don’t worry. Here’s a quick overview of all the major announcements from the 40-ish-long broadcast

Coffee Talk Tokyo

Kicking off the list of major announcements is Coffee Talk Tokyo. Set to release in 2025, the next instalment in the Coffee Talk novel series takes players to a late-night coffee shop in Japan’s bustling capital. As the barista, you will listen to the stories of new customers, offer advice, brew up coffee, and more while listening to some lo-fi beats.

Pico Park 2

Got friends to play games with? Pico Park 2, the sequel to Pico Park is now available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. What’s new in Pico Park 2 is the addition of an all-new Dark mode with levels designed to be as possible while still being completable regardless of the number of participants. 

The cooperative game challenges up to eight players to navigate through more than 60 new levels filled with obstacles. Supporting both local and online multiplayer, Pico Park only needs one player to own a Nintendo Switch for others to join in the game. 

Star Overdrive

Star Overdrive, an intergalactic adventure from developer Dear Villagers, is set to launch as a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2025. The action-adventure game puts players in control of a hoverboard on an alien plane. The brief trailer showcases a world filled with alien monsters, diverse lands, puzzles, and more. Interestingly enough, the hoverboard not only serves as a way of transportation, but also as a weapon. 

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection

Capcom is set to release another compilation of classic fighting games with Capcom Fighting Collection 2. The new collection will include eight titles including the likes of Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Power Stone, Power Stone 2, and Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein. 

Each game in the collection will come with enhanced features, the most notable being online play. The collection is slated for launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in 2025

Right after the announcement of Capcom Fighting Collection 2, it was revealed that the will come to the Switch digitally on 12 September, and physically on 22 November. 

Yakuza Kiwami

The remake of the first Yakuza game is making its way to the Nintendo Switch on 24 October after years of absence on the platform. The action-adventure game takes players to Kamurocho, a realistic, modern-day Japanese entertainment district as they embark on the story of Kiryu Kazuma. 

With its blend of serious storytelling and quirky side activities which include photobooth sessions, Yakuza Kiwami aims to deliver the full experience of the original game complete with improved graphics and additional content. 

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land has been announced today by Koei Tecmo. Continuing the alchemy-themed JRPG series on the Nintendo Switch, the latest instalment follows the story of Yumia, a young alchemist who must confront her past and discover the truth about her memories.

Besides the storyline, players will traverse through the open world, enhance their alchemy skills, and defeat enemies. The game will launch on the Nintendo Switch in early 2025

Tetris Forever

Tetris is having its 40th anniversary this year and the series is celebrating with the release of a comprehensive collection of iconic Tetris games. The collection features titles such as Tetris, Tetris 2 + Bombliss, and Tetris Battle Gaiden. Additionally, there will be a new mode called Tetris Time Warp that lets you experience the different eras of Tetris gameplay in a single session. 

Beyond the playable games, Tetris Forever also functions as an interactive museum, featuring documentary videos, digital artifacts, and an interactive timeline that showcases the history of the franchise. Tetris Forever will be due for a release in Winter 2024 with an NES version of Tetris coming to Nintendo Switch Online later this year as well. 

Tales of Graces f remastered

Originally released for the Wii and PlayStation 3, Tales of Graces f remastered is a role-playing game that follows the journey of Asbel Lhant as he goes on an adventure to planet Ephinea to stop an escalating war. 

Set to be released on 17 January 2025, the game will be available for play on most major consoles including the Switch, and PC via Steam. 

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game puts you in the shoes of a new Fazbear employee who will navigate the Pizzaplex and face the animatronics while playing a variety of minigames. 

Additionally, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - Ruin, a free story DLC for Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, is also coming to the Nintendo Switch. In the game, players take on the role of Cassie, a Faz fan who must navigate through the run-down Pizzaplex to save her best friend Gregory from the animatronics. 

It won’t be long as both games will be available for play this upcoming holiday season

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma

Want to build a town? In Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, players take on the role of an Earth Dancer tasked with restoring the lands of the eastern region of Azuma by utilising the forces of nature. Besides rebuilding, there will be enemies to defeat and villagers to meet. The game is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch in the spring of 2025. 

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

We got more gameplay of the upcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake! Though short, the gameplay trailer did showcase more of the combat and customisation options that can be made within the game. Check out our article here to learn more about the game releasing on 14 November. 

Balatro : Friends of Jimbo

To wrap up Nintendo Switch Direct, the Roguelike deck-building game Balatro is collaborating with other games to create themed decks. The games include The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Vampire Survivors, Among Us, and Dave the Diver. 

It seems that the different themes will bring various new effects aside from the visual overhaul of the playing cards. Those interested can update the game to the latest version to check it out now
