Lunch at Monster Hunter x Japan Rail Cafe, an intricate collab made just for MH fans

Japan Rail Cafe wanted to make a place where Monster Hunter fans can hang out, so we took a look at what's in store for this collab. #capcom #MonsterHunter #MonsterHunterJRC

Earlier this week, Japan Rail Cafe opened up its doors to the media to showcase its Monster Hunter collab, which started a couple week ago. This is the cafe’s first video game collab (and Capcom’s second local Monster Hunter restaurant collab), and it's hyped up to be an exciting experience for both old and new Monster Hunter fans.

But before you even enter the cafe, a helpful Palico greets you just outside the door.

Once you enter the cafe, you’ll be greeted by a Hunter’s Board, an interactive activity that allows people to mark which MH games they’ve played and leave little messages. The two boards in the cafe were filled up when we got there, so it seems like a pretty popular activity.

Futher inside, the decor was pretty heavy on art from Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the series. This also included TV screens playing cutscenes from the new game.

But what caught our eye was this wall of posters. Apart from Monster Hunter Wilds, Japan Rail Cafe also wanted to showcase key art from past titles in the series, including expansions.

And apparently, these posters saw a lot of requests by fans to be taken home, too.

One of the biggest things you'll see in the dining area is this photo wall featuring Arkveld, the big bad of Monster Hunter Wilds. On the right are some sword props to pose with, too.

You may want to use those props in your pictures, because you stand a chance to win some limited edition merch.

Simply post a photo of yourself battling Arkveld with one of those props and tag Japan Rail Cafe on social media to enter a lucky draw for a Monster Hunter Wilds plushie. If the total photos gets up to 300, customers will also get a menu discount.

Now, for the main event. This was the Chicken Namban Don set (S$18++). It's one of four available sets, the others being Salmon Avocado Don, Kaisen Avocado Don and Pork Shogayaki Don. The menu items are based off existing Japan Rail Cafe items, but come in Monster Hunter-themed bowls.

It was served alongside the Bunny Dango set (S$12++), inspired by the sam item from Monster Hunter Rise. This was a pleasant surprise; the dango itself was chewy without being too sticky, and the filling was pretty good too.

Some of the cork coaster designs you might get with your meal, with one free coaster for each purchase. There's a total of 10 designs across the promo period, and these designs are exclusive, made specially for this collab.

11/12

For each meal, you also get a placemat to go along with the coaster. There are five designs in total, based on various Monster Hunter games, and they'll also look nice as a print on a wall.

The idea for a Monster Hunter collab came from Japan Rail Cafe, and Capcom was happy to take it up, with the company saying it's looking forward to collaborating with more FnB spots in the future.

If you want to come down and have a look, you can find Japan Rail Cafe at Guoco Tower near Tanjong Pagar MRT. The Monster Hunter collaboration will run now until 31 May.
