Zeiss jumps into the mirrorless fray with their first full-frame camera

Zeiss is perhaps better known for their lenses, but that may soon change with the Zeiss ZX1. Announced at Photokina 2018, the camera has a 37.4MP full-frame sensor with ISO sensitivity of 80-51,200, and a fixed Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2.0 T* autofocus lens with leaf shutter for extremely quiet operation.

It also comes with a 16:9, 4.34” rear LCD that has a 338 ppi resolution and multi-touch capabilities, allowing you to easily navigate through menus and review your images. Interestingly enough, the camera will come with 512GB of internal storage and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC pre-installed so you can do your edits on the fly.

A large 4.3" multi-touch screen fills the rear.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C 3.1 connectivity options are available, and the camera will let you upload images directly to the internet when connected to a network without the need to go through your smartphone. In fact, it can even get over-the-air software updates, so the camera can be on the latest firmware without being connected to a computer.

Besides being taking images in JPEG and RAW, the ZX1 will also capture video (MP4) at up to 4K (3840 x 2160) 30fps quality, and is able to do Full HD (1920x1080) 60fps recording. Pricing has yet been announced, but the camera is expected to be available in early 2019.
