YouTube is about to have its first-ever livestream e-commerce channel, and it’s debuting in South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, YouTube is set to launch a new livestreaming shopping platform on 30 June 2023, with 30 brands participating in this new platform. This is also the first time YouTube is launching an official shopping channel in the world.

This comes after the integration of YouTube Studio’s “Shopping” tab for eligible content creators that was announced nearly a year ago. The Shopping tab allows content creators to feature products in their channels and content, creating a more direct method for viewers to buy products they see featured in their favourite content creator’s works.

According to Reuters, which quoted Kyobo Securities, South Korea’s live commerce market (which includes livestream selling and shopping) was set to grow to KRW 10 trillion (~S$10.396 billion) this year, up from KRW 2.8 trillion (~S$2.91 billion) in 2021.

The live shopping channel on YouTube will start as a 90-day project, exclusively available in Korean language.
