Is your Pixel 3 camera “shaking” for no reason?

Is your Pixel 3 camera “shaking” for no reason?

While Google’s Pixel series of phones have always been lauded for their pure Android experience and exceptional camera performance, I also don’t remember any generation that’s free of hardware problems.

The latest issue? As reported by Android Police, Pixel 3 owners have been complaining for months about a “shaking/stuttering/vibrating” issue with the phone’s camera. Apparently, the camera will “shake” when taking a photo or video, and that’s even when the phone is placed on a stable surface. And the complaints are everywhere, including on Google’s own Pixel forum and Reddit.

Android Police:

The issue manifests as you can see in the video above, visible as the viewfinder in the Pixel 3’s camera app shakes wildly. This results in videos and motion photos that are equally as jittery, and inconsistent focus in photos. Some have speculated that it’s the camera’s OIS (optical image stabilization) or autofocus mechanism bugging out. Those with the issue sometimes report an audible noise coming from the camera, occasionally heard in recorded video. No fix or solution has been discovered short of a hardware replacement.

For what it’s worth, this problem seems to affect the smaller Pixel 3 way more than the Pixel 3 XL. There’s no official word from Google about it yet, so if you’re experiencing this, it’s time to exercise your warranty rights.
