Samsung just announced two USB Type-C power delivery (PD) controller chips, the SE8A and MM101.
The SE8A is the first PD controller in the industry to embed Secure Element to add an extra layer of security. The MM101 supports Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for product authentication and has moisture sensing features to ensure safer charging conditions.
Both chips come with an embedded Flash (eFlash) which offer the flexibility of modifying the firmware to meet the most up-to-date specs. They also meet the most recent USB specs for fast charging, USB-PD 3.0 which addresses the compatibility and efficiency challenges across different mobile devices.
As they support charging up to 100W, these chips can be used for a variety of devices including smartphones, tablets, laptops and monitors. The MM101 is currently sampling while the SE8A is in mass production.
