It’s almost time to assemble.

The beta testing period for Marvel’s Avengers will begin as early as next month, opening the game up for everyone to play before its full release on September 4, 2020. The details are a little complicated, however.

Announced by IGN, the upcoming superhero game's playable beta will be available for everyone at a couple different dates, depending on what platform you own and whether you bought the game or not. Here are the dates:

  • August 7 - PlayStation 4 owners who pre-ordered the game can play the beta.

  • August 14 - All PlayStation 4 owners can play the beta, and the pre-order beta opens for PC and Xbox One players.

  • August 21 - All PC and Xbox One players can play the open beta

If you’re on the PlayStation 4, you’ll basically get to play the game earlier than everyone else no matter what. While Crystal Dynamics hasn’t revealed when this beta period will end, creative director Shaun Escayg has explained how much of the game we’ll be able to play:

We built the beta in such a way that you can experience most of the things that you’ll be doing in the full game. That means playing a piece of the original single-player Avengers story campaign, fighting through co-op missions, experiencing hero and world progression, and exploring War Zones and Drop Zones, a new kind of mission we’ll talk about in the upcoming War Table on July 29. This beta is meaty, but it’s only a small part of the finished game.

As Escayg puts it, the beta will include most of the experiences players can expect in the full game - but it will only include a small portion of it. The developer also announced a War Table presentation on July 29, where they will show off, “an extensive look at beta content,” and a surprise or two.

We interviewed Crystal Dynamics about Marvel’s Avengers a short while ago, and boy was it enlightening.
