You can now use NETSPay to make contactless payments overseas
NETS is now available outside of Singapore for the first time. The electronic payment network has entered into a strategic partnership with UnionPay International to allow consumers to scan and pay for purchases at over 7.5 million UnionPay QR code merchants across the globe.
The updated NETSPay app comes with a new wallet feature that will also let users make contactless payments using an NFC-enabled smartphone at the nearly 12 million UnionPay QuickPass contactless acceptance points.
This means there’s less of a need to use foreign currencies to pay in cash when you travel overseas. Several popular destinations are covered, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand.
In addition, a number of new features have been added to the app, including the ability to send and receive money from other NETSPay users using their mobile numbers or a QR code. You can also send “e-angbaos” to family and friends in the app.
