Back in January at CES, Yeelight, a Xiaomi ecosystem company, announced its intention to add HomeKit support to several of its lighting products, including the Yeelight Lightstrip Plus, the 2nd-gen Yeelight LED smart bulbs and the Mi Colour Bulb.

After what seems like forever, the promised support has finally started to roll out this month. For a start you need to check if there’s a firmware update for your Yeelight products. According to HomeKit News, there are new firmware updates for the Yeelight Aurora Lightstrip Plus, Yeelight Tunable White Bulb and the Mi Smart Colour Bulb. Only after you’ve updated the firmware can you then proceed to use the Mi Home app to add them as HomeKit devices to the Apple Home app.

If you don’t use the Mi Home app, Yeelight has also earlier this week updated its own Yeelight iOS app to include HomeKit support. What this means is that you can now also link the devices to HomeKit using the Yeelight app.

For what it’s worth, several upcoming Yeelight products are also expected to get HomeKit support. According to HomeKit News, these include three unannounced desk, bedside and floor lamps, and a Yeelight Bedside Lamp II. That last one shouldn’t be confused with the Mi Bedside Lamp 2 or the Mi Desk Lamp Pro, which are existing products already known to support HomeKit.

Finally, while Apple doesn’t carry any of these Yeelight and Mi HomeKit-enabled products (most of them support Google Assistant, too), you can find some of them at local Xiaomi authorised resellers.
