Based on the average sales prices of the iPhone, UBS analysts Steven Milunovich and Benjamin Wilson predict that Apple could raise the price of this year's flagship model to US$1,100. The current iPhone X is priced at US$999.
The analysts believe it is part of Apple's three-pronged strategy to encourage repeat customers to pay more for new products while offering affordable products for first-time customers:
- "Cascade top-of-the-line features down the price curve (screen size, camera, etc)"
- "Move premium customers up the price curve with moderately higher prices"
- "Establish higher price bands based on new features while tapping into lower-end markets with older devices"
UBS' prediction differs from that of RBC Capital Markets; the latter shared the retail prices of the 2018 iPhone lineup where the next generation iPhone X will see a price cut to US$899 and the new Plus-sized iPhone X variant with a base price of US$999.
