X'mas Gift Idea 6: A chic solution to your home's Wi-Fi woes

D-Link Covr-2202 mesh Wi-Fi system

If you have stubborn Wi-Fi deadspots at home, a Wi-Fi mesh networking system is your best bet. Don't know what's mesh networking? Check our guide here.

But to put it very briefly, a mesh networking system uses what are commonly referred to as "nodes" to expand Wi-Fi coverage. Mesh networking systems differ from range extenders in that they use Wi-Fi technology to increase coverage, whereas range extenders simply boost an existing Wi-Fi signal.

And this is exactly what the D-Link Covr-2202 does. The Covr-2202 is a tri-band mesh networking system, which means it broadcasts a single 2.4GHz network and two 5GHz networks. The 2.4GHz network supports speeds of up to 400Mbps, whereas the 5GHz networks can support speeds of up to 867Mbps each. This is advantageous because one of the 5GHz networks can be used for backhaul communication, which frees up the other for client connections.

Best of all, the D-Link Covr-2202 has a modern chic design that will look good in homes. D-Link claims two Covr-2202 units can cover up to 550sqm or 6,000 sq ft, which should be more than sufficient for most homes. If you happen to be living in a bigger home, the Covr-2202's coverage can be further increased by purchasing additional nodes.

The D-Link Covr-2202 is sold as a pack of two and is priced at S$399.
