X'mas Gift Idea 5: A notebook for the on-the-go professional

ASUS ZenBook 14 - A notebook for on-the-go professionals

The new ASUS ZenBook 14 was designed to be among the most compact in its class, but it takes care not to sacrifice much in terms of performance and functionality.

The ZenBook 14 uses what ASUS calls a "four-sided frameless NanoEdge" display, which gives it an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 92%. The bezels measure a mere 2.9mm, but the four-sided frameless design means that they're nice and slim on all sides, and you don't have to put up with an oddly thick bottom bezel as on many other laptops. However, there's still enough space on the top bezel for the webcam, so that means no unflattering camera angles either.

The camera is also Windows Hello-capable, so you can log in really quickly with face authentication.

The ZenBook 14 is pretty slim and light as well, measuring just 15.9mm thick and weighing 1.19kg. However, it's powerful as well, featuring Intel's latest Whiskey Lake Core i7-8565U processor (1.8GHz, 8MB L3 cache), 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD. It also comes with an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 discrete GPU for some additional graphics computing heft.

The ErgoLift hinge automatically elevates the keyboard to a more comfortable typing angle when the lid is open, while also providing more room for airflow at the bottom of the notebook. And if you're missing a dedicated number pad, the ZenBook 14 has a solution for that in the form of a trackpad that doubles as a virtual number pad. You can toggle it by pressing a small button at the side of the trackpad, but it'll also continue to allow for mouse navigation even when the number pad is active.

The ASUS ZenBook 14 is available now at S$1,898 at all authorized retailers.
