X'mas Gift Idea 12: Enjoy high-fidelity audio wherever your are

Oppo HA-2SE portable headphone amplifier and DAC

It is the best of times for audiophiles and music lovers. The proliferation of music streaming services means that we now have access to more music than we ever had before. Plus, there is no shortage of quality headphones for us to choose from to enjoy our music.

But no matter what kind of headphones you use - simple ear buds, custom in-ear monitors, or even large over-ear reference grade headphones - all of them will benefit when used with a portable headphone amplifier and DAC. The amplifier ensures that your headphones have sufficient juice to sound their best, while the DAC (digital-to-analog converter) faithfully converts the digital bits of your music into analog signals.

The Oppo HA-2SE has a bass boost function and low and high gain switch for different types of headphones. There's also a handy battery level indicator.

And one of the best portable headphone amplifier and DAC to be released in 2016 is the Oppo HA-2SE. It is extremely slim and compact, making it breeze to carry around.

And on the DAC front, it features ESS Sabre's newest ES9028-Q2M DAC chip, which is capable of supporting PCM audio playback of up to 32-bit and 384kHz, and also DSD audio of up to 12MHz (DSD256). On the amplifier side of things, the HA-2SE has sufficient juice to drive headphones with an impedance of up to 300-ohm. The HA-2SE is compatible with PCs, Macs, iOS, and also Android devices.

But that's not all, the Oppo HA-2SE also has a line-out port, which can be connected to a separate amplifier, allowing the HA-2SE to function as a standalone DAC. And if you are really desperate, the HA-2SE can also be configured to work as a mobile battery bank to charge your portable devices. Fully charged, its battery has a capacity of 3,000mAh, sufficient to provide a full charge to most smartphones.

The Oppo HA-2SE is priced at S$479 and you can read more about it in our hands-on article here.
