Xiaomi unveils full metal body Redmi 3 with 4,100mAh battery

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 3 smartphone today. Unlike its plastic predecessors, the Redmi 3 will sport a full metal body and a new lattice design on the rear made up of 4,166 stars. Design-wise, the phone bears more than a passing resemblance to Apple's iPhone 6.

The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and will have a 5-inch HD display. On the rear of the phone, you'll find a 13-megapixel, f/2.0 camera with phase detection autofocus, while the front has a 5-megapixel f/2.2 camera.

The Redmi 3 will have 16GB internal storage but a second SIM slot will double up as a microSD card slot with support up to 128GB. As expected, it will run on Xiaomi's MIUI 7.

The Redmi 3 will be launching in three colors: gold, silver and dark gray (looking very similar to Apple's space gray) and will be available for RMB699 (~S$154) in China starting tomorrow.

No word yet on local availability.
