Xiaomi’s new products include a partnership with Mercedes AMG Petronas

The Xiaomi ecosystem covers you at home and out

During the online Xiaomi Ecosystem Product Launch that wrapped a few hours ago, Shou Zi Chew, the President of International at Xiaomi, said that there are more than 252 million connected IoT devices currently on their platform and the company is continuing their dual engine strategy of driving growth through smartphones and AIoT.

With this strategy in mind, the company unveiled new additions to their IoT-connected smart hardware range today. Abi Go, Head of Product Marketing at Xiaomi oversaw the online launch of the Mi Smart Band 5, Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic, Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 and Mi Electric Scooter 1S, as well as a special limited-edition scooter. Some of these products had already been launched or announced already in China.

Mi Smart Band 5

The top 5 features of the new Smart Band 5

Announced last week in China, the first device launched by Go at the event, the Mi Smart Band 5 now sports a 1.1-inch high-resolution AMOLED display. Handily, you no longer need to remove it from the strap to charge, as the new magnetic charger connects easily onto the back of the band and gives the Mi Smart Band 5 a 14-day battery life.

The heart rate tracker is now more effective, especially when tracking your performance during five newly added exercise modes for total of 11 exercise types. For example, skipping can track the number of jumps made.

With all the problems caused by Covid-19 adding to stress levels, it’s nice to know that the Mi Smart Band 5 has us covered with 24-hour sleep monitoring so that the quality of our REM sleep and daytime naps can now be measured as well. There is also a new stress management level tracker and deep breathing app to help you relax if things get too much for you during the day.

You have multiple themes to choose from for your Smart Band 5

With the new screen, the Mi Smart Band 5 not only displays more real-time stats, but also allows users to personalise the display with more than 65 theme options and customisable functions.

The global recommended retail price of Mi Smart Band 5 is EUR 39.99. We will update this article with the local sales info and price for Singapore once it is available.

Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic

With our growing dependence on video conferencing, Go also revealed the new Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic that comes with dual-mic environmental noise cancellation technology, to filter background noise and ensure crystal clear sound quality for video conferencing, phone calls, and music playback.

First tweeted about by Xiaomi a few days ago, the earphones come with five hours of playback and an additional 20 hours of recharging available from the USB-C enabled case, the earphones support both SBC and AAC codecs for use with both iOS and Android devices.

Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 and Mi Electric Scooter 1S

The limited-edition looks good we think

To solve the last-mile commuting issue, we’ve had the Mi Electric Scooter for a while now. But at the Xiaomi Ecosystem Product Launch, Xiaomi’s Go announced two new models, the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 and 1S, as well as a special edition Pro 2 model called the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Edition.

An easy way to cover the last mile commute

The Mi Electric Scooter 1S variant looks a lot like an update to the current model. It can reach a maximum speed of 25km/h and travel up to 30km on a single charge. There is a new double braking system along with reinforced pneumatic tires. Weighing just 12.5kg, the scooter is light enough for users to fold and carry around.

The higher-end Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 can reach speeds of 25 km/h and cover distances of up to 45km on a single charge with its 300W brushless DC motor. It has a built-in LCD for users to monitor real-time speed, riding modes, battery level, and more at a glance. Equipped with 8.5-inch pneumatic tires, a dual braking system, and a 2W headlight for improved visibility. The heavier model at 14.2kg, it can be folded up in less than three seconds if users want to carry around.

The Pro comes with more feature and increased range

In Europe, the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 is priced at EUR 499 with the Mi Electric Scooter 1S going for EUR 399. So far there is no pricing and availability details for the local market.

At the moment, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed if there will be any extra upgrades included in the special edition scooter or its pricing. According to Xiaomi, you’ll have to stay tuned for its release. We will update this article when we receive any further information.

In addition to these devices, Go also launched the Mi TV Stick and Mi 34-inch Curved Gaming Monitor. To complete the ecosystem, Xiaomi launched two new Redmi 9 series smartphones. The higher-end Redmi Note 9 and Note 9 Pro arrived in Singapore last week.
