Xiaomi might be preparing a clamshell foldable phone of its own
Has the success of clamshell foldables by Oppo and Samsung finally gotten under Xiaomi’s skin?
Reputable Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station recently uploaded a cryptic post on his leaks platform. The leak said something about a device called “Flip” with an inward folding display that’s also thin and light.
It sounds like incoherent rambling until you check the comments under this leak, where other Weibo users are discussing the possible name of this new device. Among the chatter, we learnt that this clamshell foldable is by Xiaomi, eyeing a 2024 launch, and Xiaomi may park its clamshell foldable under any of its existing phone brands (with the Mix and Civi range being top contenders).
The discussion is weirdly gendered (with many commenters assuming only female phone users would want a clamshell foldable), along with constant reminders that Xiaomi already has a book-style foldable out in the market — the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 launched last year, but never actually made it to Singapore.
