Xiaomi 12 series teaser showcases a power management chip that supports single-cell 120W charging, MIUI 13
Prior to its official unveiling on 28 December, Xiaomi teased another feature for its upcoming Xiaomi 12 series handsets.
According to Xiaomi via its Weibo official account, the Surge P1 chipset for Xiaomi 12 series handsets focuses on better power management. It supports features like single-cell 120W fast-charging and reduced heat dissipation. Xiaomi said it spent 18 months in R&D and “more than 100 million Chinese Yuan (~S$21 million+++)” to achieve this breakthrough.
While 120W fast-charging isn’t new to Xiaomi thanks to its Xiaomi 11T Pro, the Chinese electronics firm contended that existing dual-cell battery designs adversely affect battery capacity and longevity.
Interestingly, the 120W fast-charging might be limited to specific handsets since Xiaomi also uploaded a Xiaomi 12 teaser that showed 67W wired fast-charging and 50W wireless fast-charging.
Xiaomi also teased MIUI 13, its proprietary Android OS reskin, which will likely launch together with its Xiaomi 12 series handsets. The company said that the operating system has 20% to 26% faster processing for system apps when compared to MIUI 12.5.
The teaser also revealed more details about the new Xiaomi phones for 2022. Both Pro and non-Pro variants will pack Qualcomm’s latest processor for Android flagship smartphones, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
