Worldwide shipments for foldable phones expected to hit 48.1 million units in 2027
Worldwide shipments of foldable phones are expected to more than double by 2027.
According to IDC's forecast, worldwide shipments of foldable phones are estimated to hit 21.4 million units by the end of the year. Compared to 2022, this is a significant growth of over 50%! IDC also updated its forecast for 2027 when it predicts 48.1 million units of foldable phones being shipped that year.
IDC says the foldable phone segment is one of the few positive spots in a declining phone market. Consumer adoption of foldable phones will be boosted by more offerings from new and current phone makers as they compete to imrprove durability, design, user experience and performance.
Samsung, the market leader for foldable phones, has seen increasing competition from Chinese phone makers. Oppo recently announced the Find N2 Flip which is a worthy rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. Vivo is also preparing to launch its X Flip clamshell foldable phone as it is spotted in Google Play's list of supporte devices.
